Bride of the Year 2018 - Winner

There were twenty two gorgeous finalists in the 2018 Bride of the Year Competition, True Bride's eighteenth annual competition. Each of the twenty two entrants had become finalists from hundreds of contestants throughout the year, each deserving a chance to win. But there can only be one winner and in the end Ashlea Oakley Nicholls received the highest amount of votes, and was crowned ' Bride of the Year' 2018. Congratulations Ashlea!

Ashlea's Competition Experience

I saw the True Bride Facebook page pop up on my Facebook newsfeed not long after my wedding day. I loved the idea of being able to relive our Wedding Day and sharing just how magical our day was with all of our family and friends again, so thought what better way to do that then to enter this competition and have some fun with it.

I loved that not only our wedding guests but also other family and friends were able to see in to how special our day was and I loved how involved everyone was in the competition. It was very special being able to go through our photos again and really tell our story of how amazing our wedding day was.

Friends and family were all so excited and supportive of me entering the competition and couldn’t wait to start voting. I was really overwhelmed and appreciative of all the support and kind words we received from everyone.

My husband and I are lucky to both be a part of two very big families so we just did all of the sharing we could with our families and friends over social media as well as sending out plenty of text messages to people and we also shared the link in social groups we are part of on our social media.

When I received the call to tell me I had won, I was shocked and so excited! I even had a few tears in my eyes; I think more because it was so nice to know that all of the voting/sharing from our family and friends really paid off. The first person I told was my husband Jarrad of course! He didn't believe me at first haha! But he was just as excited as I was and was glad I entered in to the competition.

When we announced I had won to all our friends and family, they were all so excited for me as well and kept saying it was well deserved, but really I have all of them to thank. My Mum is very emotional like me and I could tell she was crying tears of joy over the phone when I told her.

I think it is great how much exposure given to all of the brides who enter in to the competition and think the concept of the competition overall is great! It is so nice to give brides an opportunity to relive their special day and share it again with their family and friends. I would definitely recommend other brides to enter in to the competition as it was so much fun! I have loved every part of the competition and am so happy to be crowned the 2018 Bride of the Year.

There are so many special parts of our wedding day that stand out to me but just to name a few I would have to say I loved that we had our two sons there to share the day with us, I loved that we included both mine and my husband’s Aboriginal culture in to our day by having a Welcome to Country and didgeridoo playing during our Ceremony as well as a cultural dance by the groomsmen, my Dad and other male guests at the reception and I just loved hearing how much FUN all of our guests had in general at our wedding. People still talk about our wedding day now which just really makes all the time and effort worth while! I honestly wish I could just go back and do it all over again, and again, and again!
