Even though we
grew up only 30 minutes from each other, we met 1700 kilometres
away in South Hedland, Western Australia. We met through the South
Hedland Volunteer Fire Brigade where Vaughan was already a member
and I transferred up from Mandurah, Western Australia. I originally
became a volunteer to help others but never could have anticipated
that I would meet my future husband.
We were together for 8 years when we decided to
get married. There was no romantic proposal but at our engagement
party one of Vaughan’s mates encouraged him to get down on
one knee and propose to me in front of everyone. That definitely
made up for it.
I only had ten months to organize the wedding and
I had to be well organized living so far away. The True Bride website
and the Internet were excellent tools for locating suppliers. My
mum and my 2 beautiful bridesmaids were an excellent help. Everything
just seemed to fall into place. My bridemaids organized a girly
weekend away in Gracetown, Western Australia the weekend prior to
the wedding, full of massages, yoga and winery tours (I would highly
recommend it, I was so relaxed on the big day).
The night before our wedding it was pouring down
with rain. The next day there was a light sprinkle early in the
morning and was clear for the rest of the day. People always say
it’s good luck to rain on your wedding day, luckily for us
it was perfect timing.
We were married at St Michael the Arch Angel Chapel
which is a stunning catholic church with beautiful garden surroundings
overlooking Lake Monger in Leederville Western Australia. We had
a wedding singer who was a friend of the family, her voice was like
an angel. Burgundy, black and ivory were the colours of the day.
Our wedding cars were an old Bedford fire truck and a 14 seater
Hummer. Our reception was held at The Vines Resort and Country Club
(Western Australian reception venue) which was perfect. We had a
butterfly release with the kids, which was great. Two of Vaughan’s
brothers were the MC’s, they did a fantastic job (they had
everyone laughing). The male guests were given stubby holders, the
females were given candles and the kids were given yo-yo’s
(all with our names and the date we were married as a special reminder).
I can truly say that it was a magical day, everything
went to plan and everyone had an absolute ball. I think just about
every little girl dreams of her fairy tail wedding day and marrying
her one true love. I can honestly say that my dream became a reality,
it was a day that we will never forget.
We headed down South for a few days after the wedding
to relax near the beach but are planning to head overseas this year
for our delayed honeymoon.
I would like to mention some of our fantastic suppliers, as we
couldn’t have done it with out you guys.
