Matt and I first met at a party when, he was 19 and I 17. I'm not sure
if it was love at first sight, but we both felt a connection, an attraction,
which obviously drew us together!
Matt proposed on a weekend away at the Gold Coast. We had a lovely night,
dining at Conrad Jupiters Casino, and afterwards we went for a romantic
stroll along the beach. But it wasn't until we were back on the balcony
of our room overlooking Surfers and the beach, that it happened. After
enjoying a lovely evening with each other, Matt went down on bended knee
to propose to me! Ofcourse I accepted! It was very romantic...
We had just over 12 months to organise our wedding. We were engaged
in late September and by the time we had our engagement party at the end
of October, we had virtually all the main arrangements organised. We only
wanted to be engaged for 12 months or so, therefore we wanted everything
organised as soon as possible.
The day arrived and it was a little overcast with showers. We were worried
that it was going to be a miserable day! However the sun started to shine
through the clouds and by 1pm it was turning into a beautiful sunny afternoon!
Neither Matt or I were nervous, not until we got to the church anyway!
We were both on a major high all day but I think the best moment for both
of us was when I reached the altar. We were both so taken with each other,
it felt like we were the only ones there.
Our wedding ceremony was held at St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo
Point, Brisbane. In my opinion, the most beautiful church in Brisbane.
It was a traditional church wedding ceremony with traditional songs played
by the church's organist. Followed by readings, candle lighting ceremony
involving both the parents, exchanging of the vows and rings. Finished
off with 'you may kiss the bride' and being announced as 'Mr and Mrs Newham'.
Following the ceremony we had drinks on the lawn overlooking the city
and the sun set! This was a real hit with all of the guests!
Our reception was held at the Novotel Brisbane. I wanted it to be different,
one to be remembered!! We had the bridal table raised above the guests
that worked out fabulously so everyone could see us and we could see them.
No guest was sitting with their back to us, we wanted to see their happy
faces enjoying themselves on our special day. The centrepieces consisted
of a hurricane lamp and candle surround by a wreath of flowers. Behind
the bridal table was a fairy light wall, which only added to the romantic
atmosphere. After floating on a cloud during our bridal waltz "All I want
is you" by U2, everyone was up dancing for the rest of the evening, to
end the day in style.
If we had our time over, Matt and I would not change a thing. We loved
every moment and would do it again in a flash! It certainly is the best
day of your life!! The hardest decision we had was our guest list. We
had a limit of 100 guests and it was difficult deciding between family
and friends, who we could and could not invite.
The simplest thing to arrange were the flowers. I knew exactly what
I wanted and Michelle at PS Floral Creations understood exactly what I
wanted and made it very easy..
We spent two wonderful weeks in Italy for our honeymoon. It was goregous!
Our first nights were spent in Rome, where we explored the city and the
amazing sights of Rome, and afterwards travelling south to Sorrento for
some R & R. After enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of our favourite place,
we travelled north again to Venice for the last couple of nights. Italy
was spectacular and we had a very romantic honeymoon.
Our wedding day was the best day of our life. Everything went perfectly
and we will treasure this special day forever!
