The Romance
Lee and I actually worked together for a number of years before being introduced by a mutual work friend. From the moment we met, we were always by each other's side. I would get butterflies whenever I was close to him, for me it was love at first sight. It took Lee about a year before saying "I love you" but I felt it from the start.
The ProposalTwo years into our relationship, Lee invited me to go with his mum and 2 sisters to a family reunion in New Zealand. We hired 2 cars and travel through both islands meeting all his family including his dad and his other siblings. During this time we visited a little town on the south island called Greymouth. Lee and I decided to go investigate the town. We came to an intersection and he got on his knee and pulled out the ring, as he got down on his knee his mum and sisters came around the corner. They were all just as shocked as me. It was perfect.
The Planning
We gave ourselves two years to organise our wedding and picked a date during the winter. I started planning straight away.
I loved planning and arranging our wedding and watching the end result. With the help of all my family and friends everything just fell into order and turned into my own fairy-tale.
My Bridal Pary included:-
- Sheree - My Sister - Maid of honour
- Kylie - My Best Friend - Bridesmaid
- Sonny - Lee cousin - Best Man
- Steve - Lee cousin - Groomsman
- Tayla - Niece - Flower Girl
- Stevie - Lee Sister - Flower Girl
- Corey - Nephew - Ring Boy
- Jaymz - God Son - Ring Boy
The Wedding DayWe chose to get married on Magnetic Island, such a beautiful island. We were both really nervous and excited that the day had finally arrived.
The CeremonyLee and I got married on the deck overlooking the island. I wheeled down the aisle to "Thinking Out-loud by Ed Sheeran". The night before our big day we wrote love letters to each other, only to be opened during hard times. We locked the letters into a wooden box as part as our ceremony.
The ReceptionWe Had our reception at the resort. All the men on Lees side did the Haka as a welcome to the family. The most memorable moment would have to be our first dance. I didn't want to have my first dance in my wheelchair, so I hired a stool. I got to hold Lee in a way I never thought possible. I also got to dance with my Stepdad and new father in law.
The HoneymoonWe haven't been on our honeymoon yet. I had to have surgery straight after our wedding that I had been putting off until after the wedding. We do plan on going to New York for our honeymoon.
