Dancing in the Sunshine

Heath and I met dancing in the sunshine! Well it was a big dark tent but the sun was shining down upon us that day while we were jumping up and down to the DJ that was playing! It was just another fun day with friends going to a dance festival at Belvoir Amphitheatre or so I thought! Never did I think I would meet the man I was going to marry!

I have to say Heath was not like any man I had ever met before. He slipped into my life as easy as could be, loving my friends which is so very important to me as my friends are like my family here in Australia. Our relationship has been one of so much fun and adventure! We have spent time both in Perth and Brisbane, however ended up back in Perth after missing our friends!

Heath proposed to me while on holiday in England with my family at Christmas in 2005. Everyone had said ohhhh he will ask you for sure when you go home! But I wasn’t so sure! But he did!!!! It was so beautiful and so very sweet! He asked me the day before we left to come back to Australia while out for lunch with my mum and dad! He turned to my Dad and said I love your daughter very much and I would like to ask your permission to marry her!!! And then he turned to me and asked me! I just couldn’t stop smiling!!! All the way home, you couldn’t get the smile off my face!!!

Heath had chosen me a beautiful ring, not an engagement ring but one that he had bought in Fremantle before he left. I had always said that I would like to wear my grandma’s engagement ring when I got married. Lucky we were in England to have it! I had promised my mum that I would take good care of it and I promised that I wouldn’t change the setting of the ring. It was just too beautiful to alter in any way. The only change we made was to change it from Gold to Platinum.

Pretty much as soon as we got back to Australia, the planning started!!!! Even though there was over a year to wait as we had decided on Easter 2007, I couldn’t wait any longer to start! My job in Administration was a perfect place to organise a wedding!!!

The time flew past so fast and after many smiles, tears, laughs, stresses and anxiety dreams our big day came!!!!! My family and a few friends had made the big trip over to Perth which was the most special thing ever. The night before our special day, my 4 bridesmaids who consisted of my sister, my two friends from Perth and my friend from home stayed with me so there was a lot of chatting, a few drinks and nail polishing going on! My nephew Sam was my page boy but he was with my other Sister and would join the boys in the afternoon. The morning came so fast and it was absolutely tipping down with rain!!! Weirdly though I wasn’t even phased! I was too excited!!! A last minute marquee was organised ‘just in case’ and the morning started.

Breakfast consisted of a bottle of Moet and some croissants while waiting for the make-up and hair ladies to arrive. The transformation was a wonderful sight! I was going to be a bride! And I certainly looked like one! The morning flew, the flowers had arrived which were absolutely gorgeous. My bouquet was gorgeous pink tulips and my girls had beautiful cream gerberas, then before we knew it, it was time to get my dress on! The photographer had arrived and was taking photos of my bridesmaids helping me get into my dress.

For our journey to the ceremony, I had my mum and dad in the car with me and my girls in the car behind. I felt like royalty and had a mixture of excitement and nerves in my belly!! The closer we got, the more nervous I became! I didn’t need to be though! Everything was perfect! The rain had stopped and I could see Heath waiting for me! I still wasn’t sure whether I was going to have my veil over my face, but the wind made that decision for me! I decided it would be easier to have it off!

The jazz duo started playing “At Last” by Etta James, and I knew it was time for me to walk! I was trying hard not to cry through my big smile! My Mum and Dad walked me down the Aisle. I couldn’t have had it any other way. Our ceremony was so special, fun and relaxed, exactly how we had wanted it to be. Our celebrant made it so very easy for us. She really was wonderful. There were a few giggles when I forgot to repeat what Pamela the celebrant had said but that just added to the atmosphere! I was in my own world! Our friend Toni and my sister did the most beautiful readings which bought tears to my bridesmaid Sally’s eyes! Bless!

We were pronounced husband and wife! Again the smile just wouldn’t go away!! The kiss! Yay!!! We were told to do it again by the photographer! Oh go on then!!

Heath and I had been taking dancing lessons and thought while we were on the grass right on the banks of a beautiful river we thought we would surprise our guests with our first dance. The jazz due sang “My Baby Just Cares for Me” by Nina Simone. We couldn’t stop laughing, the wind had just gone up about 5 notches, but it was just perfect (in our eyes!). It was so wonderful to be dancing with my new husband, trying to remember our steps! Just as the dance was finishing the rain started spitting, but there were two beautiful rainbows in the sky. It was amazing.

Our reception was at Matilda Bay restaurant which had the most magnificent view. The dinner was beautiful and the service was fantastic. The speeches went down without a hitch. Heath and I did one together and I think this was the one thing I was extra nervous about but once we were up at the microphone, the nerves went and we even got a few laughs!

Our entertainment for the night was none other than the Mucky Duck Bush Band! For as long as I can remember I have always wanted a bush dance when I got married!! Luckily Heath thought it would be fun too. We just wanted something that everyone would get up and dance to, whether young or old. The first dance was for us, our bridal party and their partners! It was lots of fun!

The night went so fast and before we knew it the arch had been formed and we were running back and forth underneath! I didn’t want to leave before everyone else! Our guests finally realised this and started making their way home. My bridesmaid Sally and her husband were our chauffeurs and drove us to our hotel and the rest shall we say well……!!!

Waking up next to my HUSBAND was so wonderful! Breakfast was yum and then back home to get packed for our FAMILY honeymoon down south! We decided it would be fun to take both sets of families down to a great spot in Dunsborough. We didn’t want my family to come over from England and then for us to jet off somewhere. So the next 4 days were spent with everyone having fun in the sun! It certainly wasn’t romantic but it was fun! Once everyone had left to go back home, Heath and I spend a few nights down at Bunker Bay which was just magic. Plenty of romance there!

My gorgeous dress and the bridesmaid’s dresses were made by the hands of Denise Wright. The girls looked so beautiful. She really is so very talented, a great woman to boot! My trips up to the other end of the freeway were always fun! My dress was absolutely perfect, I so want to wear it again!
My flowers, the girl’s flowers, the corsages and the button holes were done by Vera from Paulik flowers. Vera was so very patient and was full of ideas. The finished flowers were just beautiful!

Our hair and make up were done by Brigid and Linsi of Designing Brides. I never imagined that I could look like this!!!! Thank you ladies!!!
We used Elysium Functions for our ceremony and reception, and everything just looked perfect. They also came to the rescue with the marquee!
Our function coordinator was Melissa Turner from Matilda Bay Function Centre. She really was wonderful and did an outstanding job in organising everything. Nothing was too much for her, she was always there to answer my questions!

Narelle Watson was our photographer. A very patient woman after receiving about 100 emails from me! Her personality fitted so well into our day, she is lots of fun! Our album is brilliant and would never hesitate in recommending her to anyone. The boy’s suits were from Formalwear Express. Their service was outstanding and they were never too busy to help or to pop out with yet another suit to try on! Our rings were from Ross Ezekiel and were absolutely gorgeous. They also did a wonderful job of altering my grandma’s engagement ring. Our cars were supplied by Absolutely Fabulous and were absolutely beautiful, very classic and elegant.

Pamela Eaves was our celebrant, she is the most beautiful and caring woman! Nothing was too much for her and on the day she just made everything so simple, putting us at ease and enabling us to just enjoy the ceremony without worry. Last but not least I want to thank our family and friends. Without you all we could not have got through all of this in one piece! Thank you for all your help, even the smallest things didn’t go unnoticed. It was so very special to have you all by our sides on our wedding day.
