Glenn and I met through the place I was working at, through one of my work peers (if you ask him he will deny everything). Glenn and I both said that we would wait until the other one rings and nothing happened for about a month. One day he came in to talk to my work peer, so I grabbed the opportunity and bailed him up at the front counter asking him out for a coffee. He looked as if he was going to run out the door but then said yes and we went for coffee that night.
It was not love at first sight for me but he did get a second date and so on because previously guys never got past the first date. After about a month Glenn told me that he loved me and we continued to see each other and our relationship grew. My cousin got married on the long weekend around three months after we had met. At the wedding Glenn said that will be us one day and we both agreed that we felt as though we had known each other most of our lives. I just shrugged off the comment thinking that he was all mushy from the wedding but sure enough in October 2003 Glenn proposed we had looked at rings a couple of months before hand so I had a feeling it was coming soon.
Glenn booked a room at the Stamford Plaza in Brisbane. After we had arrived, we went for a walk in the botanical gardens in the afternoon and I thought for sure he would propose then but he didn?t. We went back to our room to dress for dinner. Glenn had asked me to pick where we would go for dinner so I had selected the Pancake manor. After dinner he pulled the ring box out and put it on the table and said will you marry me. Glenn was so nervous he had this look on his face as if I was going to say no, but offcourse I accepted! We then went to the movies. Our engagement party wasn?t long after this on the 8th November 2003.
We had around 12 months to plan our wedding. Glenn basically said from day one that he did not want to worry about arranging the wedding, he was involved with much of it never disagreed. The first wedding dress I ordered came to the store and it was incorrect. We ended up changing the style. I enjoyed buying all the wedding magazines that came out because I don?t normally buy girlie magazines. I enjoyed looking on the internet for new ideas, I made my invites, made the centrepieces and made the bomboniere. We purchased a wishing well which I decorated so we can put it in our garden as a reminder of our wedding. Glenn's Mum made and decorated our cake and she did such a fantastic job. Glenn did organise the cars, I had wanted a work mates Dodge Desito but he wanted something different so I left him with the job and the problem was solved.
Finally the day arrived. It was a hot sunny day in the morning but by the time we arrived at the church the wind had come up and there was a little bit of cloud. We were late back from the hairdresser by about half an hour, so after this from the time we got in the car to go to the church the time flew by. The wind lifted the back of my dress up when we got to the church, every one thought that was amusing. Glenn looked magnificent all dressed up.
Our Ceremony was held at St Paul?s Presbyterian Church in Spring Hill, it was a traditional service. With the Bridal March and Bridal Waltz, my brother was the usher. As we came out of the church the sun came out and it was a little overcast. Our photographer said it was perfect weather for having our photos taken in the gardens. I was on cloud nine all day and nothing could have bought me down.
We had our reception at the Brisbane Riverview Hotel, the guests enjoyed drinks besides the waterfall in the swimming pool area and then afterwards in the Hamilton Room. The room looked magical, all the chairs and carpet matched, the lights were dimmed, it was very nice. The staff did really well to get the meals out on time. The DJ set the mood well with the music. When we got up to do the bridal waltz I couldn?t move because I kept stepping on the back of my dress. I changed into a second dress for the reception so when the bridesmaids and groomsmen entered the room they cheered and then when Glenn and I entered the room went quiet because I don?t think that they were sure if I was the correct bride or not. We had our friends in our room after the reception and they stayed until about 3 am none of us wanted the day to end.
If I had my time again, I would make sure the reception place knew how to serve alcohol. We were paying for each bottle of wine etc., and they just kept filling glasses up for people that were not even drinking. They had the champagne already poured by the time the guests arrived and it was hot by the time the toasts came and no one drank it. Also, I would not have my friend for my matron of Honour, she was five months pregnant and used that as an excuse for throwing several tantrums and calling me a bitch.
It was all over so fast. Glenn and I both said that we would love to have the day all over again but we would not like to do the planning.
For our honeymoon we went to Port Douglas. Glenn and I had moved into our new home the week before the wedding and I worked up to the Friday before the wedding so it was 5 am mornings to 12 pm nights the week before. So we slept for the first couple of days. It was raining when we left Brisbane so when we arrived in Cairns it was nice to see the sunshine. We did a lot of walking to town and on Wednesday we went on a snorkelling trip which was great because I had never been snorkelling before it was amazing. We saw a lot of turtles and a couple of sharks. Thursday we did a day trip in the car we went to a Mango Winery and coffee works and then went to Paronella Park which I recommend anybody go if they get a chance, it is in Mena Creek. It was a romantic place full of wonder. We were so relaxed. We are hoping to go back up that way next year for another holiday.
