Wedding Stories

Brad and I met on the 4th November 1994 at a Disco in Rochester (Victoria). We hit it off straight away and have been inseparable ever since. In the first year we spent every weekend together so then we moved in together and have remained so since.

Brad proposed to me on his 23rd birthday, on the 7th July 2000. We went out for a lovely dinner at our favourite restaurant called Cervo. Following this we went to the Observation Deck at the Rialto and it was there, looking out over the city lights that Brad proposed and of course there was no hesitation, I said 'Yes' straight away!!

Once we were engaged we were in no hurry to get married, until one day I attended a Bridal Expo in Melbourne. Then I got all these wedding ideas and couldn't wait, so we started to plan the wedding in February 2001, giving us approximately 14 months.

We had decided on a formal style wedding. The day itself was lovely, about 19 degrees, just perfect, the photos vouch for this. We commenced with the ceremony, which was held at a Chapel in the Duxton Hotel. We had a celebrant and the service was very personal. He mentioned, our history, where we grew up, how we got together and then of course why we love each other. It was very deep!!

I wasn't a nervous bride, there didn't seem anything to worry about and I felt very relaxed!!! Probably because the whole wedding was easy to arrange, given we started so early. This way there were no disappointments and we did not miss out on anything we wanted. Brad and I both had a wonderful day and it was very special to us both.

One of the biggest thrills for me was searching for the most perfect wedding dress and then trying it on. This is when I felt like a real bride, it was so exciting!!!

We had our reception at the Duxton Hotel and it was decorated fantastically, it really looked gorgeous. Most of the evening went well with only some minor mishaps, like the best man going missing for the Bridal waltz, (luckily someone soon stood in for him).

We weren't entirely happy with our reception, as the Manager of the hotel, who was supposed to be running everything, was instead on top of us straight after we were married to ask questions that should have been organised before hand. The service was also a little slow for our liking and the meals were altered since the original menu tasting, which was a big disappointment.

If we were to do it again, I can't imagine anything we would do differently, we were extremely happy with all our service providers we only wish that the Duxton had been more organised, but otherwise it was perfect!

Brad and I agreed on most of the wedding arrangements. We didn't seem to disagree on anything. Throughout the process, we both expressed our opinions and it was just lucky we both felt the same way. We had no parent pressure as we organised the entire wedding ourselves. This, I believe was the best thing, as you have no one to answer to. It is your day and it should be how you want it to be. We were lucky our parents left us to make our own decisions. They were great!

We went to Surfers Paradise for our honeymoon and stayed at the Park Royal for a week and had a sensational time. It was great to be able to relax and forget about everything. We lived it up and did not want to come home. We could really do it again as it was our first real holiday together in over 7 years.
