We met through the internet around seven years ago. In our case it certainly was NOT love at first sight, well for me anyway. Mark was very much a 'Melbourne Bogan' as he called himself and was not my type at all! He had long hair, wore tight jeans, had no ambition and was shy as could be. He was the total opposite to what I normally saw in a person.
It took us two years of talking online and meeting at parties before I had the slightest interest in him. Something happened in my life so I had had enough of the net (chat) so I sent a mass message telling everyone that was it and he was the first to reply and it just went from there and I realised there was actually something to this guy and he seemed so supportive.
In June 2002 Mark's mother passed away and it made him realise life is too short. So just after our 3 years together he finally popped the question, in BED!!
We decided on the 22nd May 2004 as our date to get married and we had almost everything planned but my sister fell pregnant and I didn't want her to be struggling throughout the day at 8.5 months so we decided to move the wedding out which also gave us more time to save. In the end it took us just under two years to finally get there but the main thing is, that we did.
We had decided on a formal theme and had invited around 80 guests. The invitations were one of the hardest things to organise as they were so hands on and each time I thought we had sent the final invite out there was someone we had forgotten on the list, so it felt like it took forever to complete.
The most amazing thing was choosing my dress. Most brides take forever to select a dress as I guess it is a fairly important part of the day. However, my dress was the easiest thing to arrange. I went to one bridal shop where I told the assistant what I was looking for. I tried on two dress's and I ended up buying the first one I had tried on. The whole process took me about 40 mins! Unheard of!!
The day was actually a very calming day. We were both extremely relaxed throughout the whole day. I never once got nervous (I don't know if that's a good thing) and Mark did just as I was walking towards him. The day went swimmingly and there were no major hiccups which was fantastic and in the morning while us girls were getting ready nothing went wrong!
We just had a pretty relaxed ceremony. We had our celebrant (who was fantastic) and we got married at Weir Reserve at Penrith on the lake and it was so picturesque. Our ceremony was about 25 mins long and we had a rose ceremony at the end, mind you I have no idea where the roses went.
We had our reception at Penrith RSL and the staff made the night fantastic. We had the traditional reception with fantastic food.
It was a big high for me, to see the day unfold. All the planning had paid off and I felt at ease the whole day. It was fantastic!!
We went to Noosa for our honeymoon for a week. We stayed at a fantastic resort and even did an adventure tour to Fraser Island for the day and that was awesome.
