The Romance

Maddies cousin had tried to set Maddie and I up on a date and it never happened. Four months later we were introduced while on a night out and that's where it all begun. Another three months later and we were inseperable. Only a short time had passed when I knew that he was the one. It didn't take me long to realise I had a "one of a kind" man. They don’t make them like Maddie anymore. Not in our small town anyway! He was kind and witty and we share the exact sense of humour. My whole family was totally in love with him as well so that's always a great sign!

The Proposal

>Maddie took me away for the weekend to Thala beach lodge in port Douglas to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary. We had a magical few nights in what I can only describe as 'the MOST glamorous' treehouse over looking the ocean. Later in the night after Maddie had taken me to a 5 star restaurant in the heart of Port Douglas, we arrived back at our treehouse cabin where I walked in to find rose petals sprinkled everywhere through the room and all over our bed and some chocolate and wine. He then brought me outside (where he had set up a camera) and suddenly was on one knee to propose.

The Planning

We were lucky we had a full 11 months to plan our very special day. Admittedly I am not like regular brides where every detail has to be ‘just so’. I am an extremely relaxed person in everyday life. Making plans for a wedding was really quite overwhelming for me. I am lucky enough to have the ‘mother of all mothers’ and she took over the biggest stresses for me, and of course made everything perfect!

The Wedding Day

Our wedding day was nothing short of amazing. The weather had been playing up leading up to the day and we were obviously a little unsure of how our day would be, but it turned on a show for us and was the most perfect weather you could hope for with an all outdoor wedding! As our reception was held out on the pool deck at the Cairns Pullman international, they had given us the penthouse suite for two nights so the girls and I all got ready in the suite and the boys had a room also at the Pullman, but luckily we didn’t bump into one another before the ceremony! It made it even more special to see him waiting for me at the end of the aisle. /p>

The Ceremony

I still to this day cannot put into words how I was feeling on the day. All I can say is nothing quite compares to that day and the realisation that you finally get to marry your absolute best friend. We really wanted to have a relaxed outdoor wedding and by the lake at Lake placid was everything we could have hoped for. My beautiful dad was very passionate about making us an arch way from some old doors he had found. We had them decorated with flowers and a (you and I) hanging sign which sat just above the middle of our heads. Our DJ is our brother in law so we were lucky enough to have the music playing as I walked down the aisle. My song was "in case you didn’t know" by Boyce Avenue. The mood was romantic, relaxed and very very emotional. You could really feel the love all around. Our ceremony was by far the most memorable part of the wedding day for me. It was so raw and emotional. You absolutely cannot beat your husband's reaction when seeing you walk down the aisle for the first time. It is the most special feeling.

The Reception

Our wedding reception was outside on the pool deck of the Pullman international Cairns. We really wanted to have everything outside and open in the fresh air. We had a beautiful time at our reception, mingling with all our guests and of course having a bit of a dance.

The Honeymoon

Maddie and I were super lucky enough to have our honeymoon on the Greek islands. Spending our time at Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. I mean it doesn’t really get much better! We had an amazing time together and took home some new friendships as well.

Wedding Advice ...

Our day was just magic. You talk to a million other women and couples who tell you that the day flies by and to enjoy it, but you never REALLY know how quickly the day does actually go. If I did have my time again I would slow down, take a deep breath and breathe it all in. The day is irreversible so make sure you do everything you want to do, stop and enjoy every second of it, be with your new husband and take it all in.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to have a single photo with just my mum and I because of a few mishaps whilst getting ready. I highly recommend planning and specifying everyone you want to have a photos with and so you don't miss out and be one the first to get ready so you have the time to capture the photos with the people you want.
