The Proposal
I had just about given up on a proposal but just over a year ago, while holidaying in Fiji, Angus took all of us by surprise (including myself) by proposing at the Flying Fish Restaurant at the Sheraton Fiji Resort. The atmosphere was amazing...the brightest stars you have seen with soft candlelight lighting our table, the sounds of gentle waves crashing and live music in the background and the most delicious food we had ever tasted!
We had just finished our main courses and a bottle of Moet when I was left to look at the dessert menu while Angus excused himself to go to the bathroom. Me being my nosey self saw Angus going the wrong way and was pointing towards the opposite direction to where the bathrooms were (didn't realise at the time, he had no intention of going to the bathroom but instead was hatching a plan with our Fijian waiter).
So there I was busily studying the dessert and cocktail menu when Angus walked back over, gets down on one knee and asks me if I would give him the honour of becoming his wife! Of course he said a lot of other things but it was all a bit of a blur. I said yes and grabbed him up for a kiss and cuddle. The restaurant erupted in applause and all of the Fijians waiters and waitresses came over singing this celebration song to us and brought with them a proposal cake. It was a magical night! Fiji had become such a special place to us that we knew straight away that we would travel back with our family and friends to be married there.
The Highlights
We were lucky enough to have a week of celebrations and highlights for our wedding and what better way to celebrate than having a holiday at a tropical island resort in beautiful Fiji with our closest family and friends? The day started with a champagne breakfast with my best friend and bridesmaid before a walk along the beach listening to music. I made a quick stop over at the pool bar and charged a cocktail to the room while I painted my toenails on a deck chair. After having a shower, I put on my makeup and my best friend Nikki did my hair.
The setting was absolutely beautiful. We were married in the 'Paradise Chapel' at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Island. It definitely lived up to its name by having glass walls at every turn so that you could see the blue ocean, sandy beaches, tall palm trees and the lush gardens surrounding it.
My little girl thought I was a Princess and I felt like one in the beautiful Maggie Soterro dress that my mum had bought me!
Seeing our beautiful daughter Ashlyn and her best friend Chloe as little Fijian flower girls walking down the aisle was a real highlight. They looked adorable in their outfits (made by Marcella Creations). Also having my Uncle, The Revd Bruce McAteer (from St Lukes Mosman Anglican Church) marry us in Fiji was very special and made our ceremony personalised as he knew us so well. Each and every speech touched our hearts and we will treasure each one always.
We danced the night away at the resort's Chime Bar with our friends and family to the local Fijian band, it was a great way to finish off the night. We had so many laughs and good times while we were away. It all just went too quickly! Lucky for us we had an amazing photographer, Yoshi Kawai (Ocean Studios Fiji) there to capture each and every amazing moment on our wedding day.
