We first met when we were in high school. I was in year 11, just 15 years old and Anthony was 16. We were at a golf dinner dance and I was selling raffle tickets. Anthony couldn't resist and bought one from me, and then asked me out on a date.
We were very young and somewhat immature, so it was not love at first sight, but we did date for a few months.
Both being from Adelaide, a couple of years later we met again at Adelaide University whilst I was studying law and he was studying commerce. This is when we discovered that we were in love and ten years later we were still dating.
Then one glorious Sunday afternoon we headed down to river Torrens near Adelaide University with a bottle of Moet and a picnic hamper full of food and goodies, as this is where we would spend many lunches during university days. Given it was April fool's day, I wasn't expecting a proposal, but sure enough, after 12 noon he surprised me by proposing, and I said 'yes' without hesitation!
We then set our wedding date for 23 February 2002, giving us 10 months to organise everything. Given that I spent at least two of these months working in Sydney, it became somewhat challenging to organise everything that needed to be done.
We had decided on a formal theme for our wedding and had a full Catholic Nuptial Ceremony at St Francis Xavier Cathedral in Wakefield Street Adelaide, followed by a reception for 350 guests held at the Adelaide Town Hall. It was a classical reception in a beautiful setting, decorated with many glorious flowers, where we danced our bridal waltz to L.O.V.E. by Natalie Cole.
The day itself was just perfect, 28 degrees and not a cloud in sight. All aspects of the day ran extremely smoothly. Anthony was particularly relaxed and did not stress about anything. I wasn't nervous either and apart from the fact that I was sleep deprived (as I didn't sleep a wink the night before) I was walking on air.
During the lead up to the wedding Anthony was a gem. He was very supportive and great to talk to when I was stressed about anything.
To top off a lovely wedding, we went on a short honeymoon to Hayman and Hamilton Island. We are planning an extended honeymoon working and travelling overseas for the next two years with our base in London. We are heading off on the 7 July 2002.
Looking back everything was just perfect, and I probably would not change a thing.
