Glenn and I met at a mutual friends'
house one night 7 years ago. It was definitely love at first sight
as we have never left each others' side since and are still so blissfully
happy as when we first met.
Glenn proposed on Valentine's Day 2007, 5 years later, at the Adelaide
Botanical Gardens after a picnic lunch in lush surrounds with the
background of flowing water. It was such a surprise and the most
memorable experience of my life.
Popping the question wasn't so easy for Glenn as he planned it
to be a surprise but some things didn't turn out the way he wanted.
He told me later that the reason we moved locations around the gardens
several times was because just as we found a lovely 'secluded' area
someone would sit near us and 'spoil the moment'. Silly me, thought
we were moving around because it was a hot day and the shade we
were sitting under kept moving. Finally Glenn found the perfect
spot and with no-one sitting near us, plenty of shade and beautiful
background noises, he asked me to marry him..
We, (well I mostly) started planning the wedding before we even
got engaged. We set the date almost immediately due to Glenn's work
being seasonal (he works in a vineyard). The actual wedding planning
started when it was official and it took around 21 months for everything
to be 100% done.
Our wedding day couldn't have turned out more perfect if we tried.
The day before was blowing a gale and cold and the morning after
was raining so hard we couldn't believe it. I woke up that morning
to my gorgeous husband-to-be (who left shortly after) and was so
calm. I was the one handing everyone drinks and asking if everyone
else was ok. Even in the car I was on a high until it was time to
get out and I got so emotional especially when I started to walk
down the aisle and Glenn started to cry. The tears were flowing
then..
The wedding ceremony was held in the Belair National Park at Old
Government House surrounded by beautiful gardens and went without
a hitch (except for my groom saying "With this Wing" instead
of "with this Ring", oh well, we thought it was pretty
funny. We wrote our own vows and didn't disclose them to anyone
until we read them out. Once again Glenn's (and most people) tears
flowed.
Our wedding reception was held at the Adelaide Pavilion which was
exactly as we had imagined.. The staff had obviously taken note
to our suggestions and likes and they did the rest. We were both
so happy with the outcome. The staff were all so helpful and accommodating
to us and all of our guests, the food was fantastic. It was just
one big fairytale come to life.
I would not change a thing, everything turned out the way it should.
We could not believe it. There were no disagreements. Glenn and
I knew we were on the same page with everything and everything worked
out perfectly.
We were given a wonderful gift from Glenn's dad, a week long honeymoon
to Cairns. We left a week after our wedding which gave us time to
spend with some of our interstate guests. We stayed at the Lakes
Spa & Resort which was just heaven, a honeymoon in paradise
and did the whole tourist thing.
We would just like to thank everyone who helped us with our planning
and wedding day process. We had the best day in the whole world
and would like to wish all the future brides the best of luck as
it the best day you will ever have. Take it all in because it disappears
in one day. |
